RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

That looks pretty friggin sweet if you ask me.

I bet there would be more than one person who'd be interested in buying one from you if that material is strong enough. I know I would consider it if...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

You're going to have to take the plans to a photocopier place and have them blown up. I wouldn't recommend this design for much more than a 1/6th scale. I've talked to people wanting to use it on a...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

You could always take what has been designed and just scale it up. I would question how strong the tailwheel would be on a large plane. While G-10 is pretty darn strong, all those solder joints...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

I'm still around, just haven't made the time to try out the newest design. I've been helping rebuild some planes for a couple of friends. Why people don't learn that just because something is...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Of course I'll post it!

I've currently fallen out of interest on working on my current Corsair project so I've lacked the motivation to actually do something :(

I will try this out soon...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

That looks good to me. I'll play around with it a little and see about making a test piece. Thanks for your suggestion.

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

I couldn't cut 1/16 G-10 with tin snips. I cut the copper G-10 roughly to size with a abrasive cut off wheel (the black fiberglass reinforced type) using a dremel. Wear a dust mask because that dust...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Tom

Those are some interesting modifications. I'd be interested in learning more about how you did that. The most important thing is does it lock in the down position. If it does, I'd be...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Thats a mighty nice tailwheel. I'm glad you enjoyed the building experience. I don't think I've ever worked so hard on a small part that largely won't be seen by most!

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

I do what I can :)

I haven't been working on my corsair project for too long. Sooner or later I gotta get back into it.

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Yeah people still use this forum :)

Here are the plans that I drew up. I have made some minor modifications to the original drawings that I created (such as a different way to make the shock...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

To answer question #1: I have no idea! I have built one of these tail wheels and I'm still a long way from being done with the kit. My field has a dirt runway and it should handle it just fine.

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Ey Skipper!

I must say I'm rather impressed with myself in that I was able to make it. It wasn't nearly as hard as I expected once I understood how the whole thing goes together. The whole...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Well I've been making some great progress on my tailwheel. I have pretty much the whole thing built. All that is left is to assemble the shock absorber. I'm waiting for a friend to finish milling...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Smug,

how much throw do you need in order to move the tail wheel up and down. I was planning on using a air ram with a 1" stroke. Will that be enough?
Or would you recommend using a servo...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

I thought everyone might want some pictures for reference of what the real tailwheel looks like.

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

I can see what you are talking about. I guess it would be hard to get your hands inside that thing to make adjustments.

BTW, those doors are sweet!

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Tom,

I've seen your posts on how you did the wheel doors on your plane. Couldn't you do something similar to that method for the rear tailwheel doors? It seemed like such a simple yet...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

I'm loving it so far! I can clearly see how the parts come together. I cant wait to see the rest of it. Obviously having a lathe is important. Luckly a member of the club I belong to has such a...

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Smug,

Thanks for the video.

I thing I understand now! I do think a little extra engineering is needed though to make it up to my standards. But all in all, its a solid design

RE: Looking for Corsair tail wheel build

Tom that tailwheel video looks great. I hope to build mine just as nice. I'm at the point right now that I'm just compiling all the information on how to make it. I've ordered the PC board. Seems...
