Don Muddiman Flying Machine
#852
Put the Flying Machine up yesterday, what a blast, fast and maneuverable, goes straight up and lands like a dream. The OS Heli engine runs smooth and starts easy, sounds good on the pipe, but likes the fuel, about 7 min flight time to empty. A little wind yesterday, but did not effect it much, just point it and nail the throttle. Even after several flights, the speed surprised me at the beginning of the flight and I had to get used to it. What a great model airplane.

Interest rises and falls. The people who were going to do the ARF, 2 separate ones I believe, fell through, poor communication. Lots of excuses. I have the plans and a kit, will get around to it sooner or later.

Flyingmachine... sorry!! I'll grab pics soon. Just been really busy with work. This one is number 9 that I've scratched built. I have a foam wing laying around that needs to be built. I think I'll use it for this build. Not sure yet if I want to go with a all wood wing or not? Will see!!!!

FLYING88, Hello!, I have both a FOAM sheet winged FM and TWO build ups. The build ups scratch built of course. ONE is full custom, you could STAND on this wing. I wish I had a Dubb Jett .60 or something for it, I have taken it full throttle straight down from about 300FT with a Rossi .45 speed motor pulled up and did so many snap rolls it was STUPID. I am truly an advocate of this BIRD. All I fly is FM and Hots 2, Everyone knows me at the field. I scare everyone AWAY. I am also the only guy running speed and tuned pipes. (that I know of). Take care and forever will the FM spirit live on.

Ah, Matt,
so you were the one that walked away with the FM. Good for you. Had my eye on it but I didn't sell enough stuff to get it. Were you able to talk him down from his asking price?
I looked at it and the construction was different from the original. This one had dowels in the front of the wing and it did not have the metal straps for the wing hold-down bolts. Wonder how it would hold up to Don's routine?
Good Deal.
Doug
Edited to add that there was another FM at the same swap that could have used a recovering job. This was one of the old kit-built ones.

Talked him down to 60. I notice a few diffrences form the kit version and it was missing a few bits. I think I can get it together wish he had a manuel or some instructions. Going to be interesting drilling the holes for the wing hold down bolts, but I will figure it out. I will let you all know when I get it ready to fly.
