Jeti DS-16/14 owners...
I recently decided to convert from JR to Jeti and bought a DS16. I was very excited about the radio until a friend of my said,he had a DS14 and 16 and lost a couple planes and went to JR. Made me a bit nervous and now I do see numerous threads about range limits with the DS16. Many people recommend installing a Crossfire module.
My question is for DS16 and DS14 owners. Have you experienced any range issues or link issues? I am putting this in a $12,000 model and now a little concerned.

Here are a few threads I found after digging a bit:

Here is the crossfire thread: I see its a 915 MHz connection. I'm wondering if that's why Jeti is incorporating the 900 MHz in the DS24

The bottom line is "Buy and Fly whatever you feel comfortable with".
On the Internet forums it is nearly impossible to separate facts from opinions from agendas (intentional or not)
FWIW, I fly a Jeti DC-16 in (too many!) 2m F3A planes and jets and have no concerns nor reservations.

I agree and I'm super excited about the Jeti's features. Just want to see other owners are happy.
On a side note. One of the RF testers thought the antenna design on the DC is better than the DS as they are further apart and there is not screen shadowing them with EMF.

You can read the 140 page jeti thread that is on this same page right now and see how many satisfied jeti owners there are flying with these radios. I have the DS16; my opinion is that it's the best radio I have ever owned, and over the years I have used JR, Futaba, and Multiplex.
I have used it in a BVM F100, Ultra lightning, 1/5 Skymaster Hawk, and other high end planes for the last couple of years.
I have never heard of any range issues with jeti radios and the nice thing about jeti is that you have the ability to monitor your antennas to make sure you are getting good range. I have found this very valuable when installing a new radio system. The logging capability lets you easily monitor the status of your link during flight. No more guessing if you have the antennas placed correctly like other radios.
If someone is having range issues they are easily solved with the feedback from the logged flight information so there really is no excuse to have range issues in my opinion.
I have even even been able to determine that one of the flying fields where I fly simply has a naturally dirtier environment than other places I sometimes fly. I know this because I have checked flight logs repeatedly at two or three different flying fields with the same plane and at the one field I always have lower numbers than at the other flying fields. I simply attribute this to the fact that there is something in the area that is causing this but it has nothing to do with the jeti radio. It is a solid link and you should not be concerned.

I've been flying all my jets, and gliders to the extreme of my visual range, for a couple of years on Jeti DS-16, I regularly review the A and Q logs to make sure that my metal-kote covered jets are getting a safe signal, and I have every faith in the Jeti system.

I have been using the DS-16 since it was released, never had a problem. It has telemetry which will give a notice if the signal is low, never happend to me. I've been through many different radios during the years, going from Graupner MC20, via JR 10X and various JR 9X / DSM9 Spektrum... The Jeti still after 4years still brings a smile to my face when using it. Even if the DS-24 looks cool I don' feel the urge to upgrade as the DS16 with it's 24 channels still has no limits for me.
Looks like you should go for Hitec if concerned about range

You can always find whatever answer you want about any item, if you search for people who have problems you will find them, search for people who have no problems and you will find them. Here's a comment from Darryl Tarr about the nasty rf environment he flies in which causes trouble for many brands but he says the Jeti is "bullet proof" see post #1257

I have been on Jeti since late 2013 on the DC-16's and now on the DC-24....before that I flew on the JR 12X(2.4) before that 72 mhz JR10X JR10 (heli and Plane version)......futaba VAP9, SSG8 and a bunch of the futaba gold box 5 and 7 channels, while the Jeti is the best radio ever that I have owned.....I have Never loss a model due to loss signal or RX failure.....but I also never owned a Spektrum radio that many guy are saying crash their plane....I also believe most of those crash could be 'pilot dumb thumb'
But I have crash my fair share in the past went I started flying and still sometime and can own up to my mistake or installation errors
I fly Holiners, 2m F3A planes, Large 3D Gas Plane, Jet, EDF, F3C Heli, 3D heli, F3P Plane and anything in between....I have no concern about the radio/accessories lack of quality or signal strength, installation is the key like with any other system.

I converted to Jeti from Spektrum. I guess any radio can have issues... but (as far as I know) it's the only company to have redundant transmitters in the Tx unit. And, since there are only a few random stories about range or lost signals... was it something like install issues? Or bad wires/power issues?
Also, the features are GREAT !! Flying my heli's, and Quads... all I have to do is tell the Rx to out put PPM, serial, or even Sbus. No reason to buy special Rx's.
Do your normal range check, and don't worry.
