My L-39 is all together now. It sits with a definite nose down attitude and I'm wondering how this will affect take offs. From pictures I've seen most seem to sit slightly nose down. Other models seem to leap off the runway rather than have a smooth take off if they sit nose down. I can help the situation somewhat by shimming the nose retract but am wondering if it's worth it.

For those flying the JL or BVM L-39: does yours sit slightly nose down and how smooth is your take off using TO flaps?

yes the fuse site with a negative incidence but if you look at the wings, the incidence is just fine.

My wing incidence is not fine. Wing LE is about 1/2 inch lower than the TE. That's why I'm concerned.

Been a long time since i posted to this thread! I have maybe 300+ flights on mine (now in storage since 2012 or so) and never had any t/o issues, it is/was one of my best flying jets. No memories of rotation issues or other t/o problems. Smooth flying and easy to fly jet....just buy an extra pair (or two) of main tires, mine is on the 3rd set!

PS - It's for sale if anyone is up for replacing the fuel and air lines.

Just wait for t off speed before rotating, don't hold a chunk of up elevator and she'll take off scale. Bonus is on landing she sticks well!

Mine is 10 yrs. old and I've been flying it with a Jetcat 120. All the time.
I would like to know which turbines are you flying it with???
Landing nose down or you'll will SNAP. Happened to me in second
flight. Had to buy new wing.

Wren160, perfect size, most time on 1/2 throttle for scale speed, long flight times also.

Interesting with a P120. What's your dry weight? Mine was 15kg dry. It has a Kingtech K170

I have a P160 in mine. More than enough power.

Do you guys use the "standard" thrust pipe for turbines bigger than 140 size?
I have a new L39 still in the box and a new P180, but I am unsure if I should
- Order a new thrust pipe for a P180?
- Reduce power on the P180 to fx. 14 kg.?
- Leave the P180 on the shelf and buy a 140 size?

What would you recommend?

Best regards,
Gorm

I think a 180 is too much for it. I use the standard pipe, it's very good.

Use what you have. Unless you have another project for the 180, I'd keep the standard pipe and dial down the 180.

Thank you for your replies
I will use the standard pipe and reduce power on the P180.

Same here. On the maiden last weekend it leapt off the runway. Flew great in the air, Jet Munt M166 turbine.
I think the nose strut is about 1/2 inch too short. There's not much room to shim the retract since the nose wheel is almost against the gear door. I did add a spacer to the spring inside the nose strut to stiffen it up a bit. We'll see if that helps.

Joflyer was it a grass runway, mine was so nose down it restricted speed to take off and nearly ran out of runway, going to put stronger spring in the nose .
did fly great once in the air

I had one of the earlier JL L39’s and it was too nose down as well and it didn’t take off great. It was more of a sudden leap off than gentle take off. I added a spacer on the spring as well

My maiden was at an airport paved runway. From the many pictures I've seen, some seem to sit fairly level and others definitely nose down. I'm not sure why the variability.

Mikey,
Did the stiffer spring help any?

Mine is slightly nose down, and I've been flying it as well.
Take off flaps 15 degrees, without any problems. Remember, this
plane will snap if it comes nose up. Don't ask me how I found out.

Had 5 flights now and after adding a 10mm spacer in the front leg, also a rubber band around the trailing link also it still jumped off the the grass on first flight, then added a lot more flap for take off and now it rotates nice and flys away smooth.

i do have some more springs to try out now so hopefully be able to remove the rubber band.
