Tailhook,
That looks really good, can you comment on the rest of the kit & how does it fly?
What power plant are you using? etc ?
Thanks,
John C

Hello,
we are also looking for the L 39 from jetlegend.
But we try, to get a special colour, which shoot looks like the 1:1 one, that was flown at jet-power on saturday.

ORIGINAL: TAILHOOK-RCU
Did not like the gloss look, did a little weathering.

Can you describe in detail the technique used ? Did you apply a coating afterwards to get rid of that gloss surface ?
This is all new to me... I'm a newbie in this field and rather the type of pilot which goes to meetings with unpainted jets...
Thanks for all input.
Nicolas.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Well I did it!!!!
Placed my order with The American Distributor CamLex and should have my red white and blue L39 in about 3 weeks. I decided to go with stock gear and struts to start, I can always pimp my ride later. Now that I am waiting the 3 weeks or so, can anyone who has built one advise me on JR servo selection so I can order those and have everything ready when the kit arrives. [8D]
Thanks

Nicolas,
You can use a matting paste to get rid of the gloss finish - try the car paint finishing suppliers or see the following link...
http://www.farecla.com/automotive.as...tomotive&set=1, under the specialist products section and you need the Advanced GMATT Flatting Liquid .
Cheers

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Christos,
Don't tell me you are already about ready to check the throws ?? Don't do this to me !
Jeff,
Thanks, I have forwarded the details to a friend of mine in the automotive business. Took a look again at the paint, and yes, much too glossy !
Kevin,
I am a Futaba adept ; most of the servos used in mine will be Futaba S9450's, they're faster than the JR 8711's most pilots use (but less powerfull as well).
Had excellent results with the S9450's in my F-16's, especially with the ACT Europe Fuzzy Gyros on ailerons. Still have Futaba gyros somewhere (GY352 and GY351) which I never used before, so will install these too, now I have the fuselage space and sufficient power. This makes gyros on all three axes .

OK, here are some pics...
Box is really small for the size of the plane... I could check it in as regular baggage (TX case for size reference)
Content was VERY complete, except for door hinges, tubings and air cylinders, everything was in the kit !
Very well packed too.

Wheels, brakes, air valves and retracts are of very good quality and finishing ! Mains are 4 1/2" (110 mm), nose wheel is 74 mm. Work very smooth, very easy to install as bulkheads etc are ready to accept the units...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
I have changed the bypass (standard in the kit is a fiberglass one) ; I used the rear end to make a front cone (see pics) and installed the SpiderJets' transparant bypass in hi-temp lexan.
I did remove the rear end and used the alu bellmouth supplied in the kit, as the JetCat P-160 gets very hot at the business end.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
The fuselage is huge, unbelievable amount of space !
The kit includes also two fiberglass tanks, which, in the fuselage, gave me the impression I would lack fuel.
I tried to fit in 2 coca-cola bottles of 2 liters, and was easy to get them in.
I made with my CNC-machines belt bulkheads to install them nicely, and when I was finished (see pics), I did check the actual volume of the standard tanks.
To my total surprise, they contain each 1660 ml. With the standard tanks plus UAT, no doubt you get enough fuel capacity for long flights, even with P-160's !
I'll fit in the standard tanks, though.

I'll post some pics of the standard tanks later on, when installed.
I have also installed the gauges for gas and air (previously SpiderJets items)...

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
The kit really lacks a good manual or really detailed plans showing all the difficult points of construction, if any.
I found so far the hinging line of the air brakes (under the belly) very tricky, if you do not install it correctly, you need to cut out the slots MUCH bigger.
The hinge line should be located reasonably aft (mine was wrong !) ; too bad all owners will have to experiment with this themselves instead of explaining it once on the plan or (missing) manual.
Also, the rudder mechanism is very tricky and dangerous (more details later on when I start assembling that one), the method suggested by the manufacturer is very prone to high speed flutter.
But for the rest, nothing but praises, it is superb quality for money, and even the chinese paint job you can consider as a base for doing your own wheathering and matting for bringing it to a higher level...
I have now working one day and a half on it, and this plane assembles very fast and fit is excellent. Only make sure you move all weight to the front as this bird would tend to be tail heavy.

Hi Spider
Finaly an excelent building thread! I like reading it.
Looking forward to see more, as I am waiting for my L-39 to arrive..
Can you take some more pics overall the plane, to see quality, wings, how it comes out of the box?
Thanks,
Zivo
