Default Maj. Woody's BVM F-18

Hi Guys.
I ordered a BVM PNP F-18 during their Cyber Monday Sale. I was told 8 weeks for delivery so that puts me six week into it at this point. I would bet at least another month though. That's good since I still have my Fly Navy Flash to build! I ordered it in the Blue Angels color Scheme jet #5...Lead Solo.

I bought a Blue Box Blue Angels Pilot who happens to be Blue Angel #5, Lead Solo Scott Kartvedt. He was on the Team many many years ago, and of course the Blues are not flying the Super yet so it wont be scale but I asked the factory to put his name under the cockpit just for fun. I think it will be neat having the pilot match the jet!

And look what showed up today! This is my third Cheetah SE. I have one for each of my Flashes. I am new to the JetCentral scene but that Cheetah SE just never missed a beat in my Flash. I just love this motor. So small and so much POWER. I think it will be a perfect match for the Hornet. Special thanks to Jose who was a big help with this purchase!!

When the Jet arrives I will do a full "build" on it. I will have to complete the Fly Navy Flash first however. I have not seen it yet but knowing myself, I will want to go over it with a fine tooth comb. Things like disassembling the tanks to check for proper plumbing and safety wire, checking all the linkages, servos, gear you name it. I will probably take the whole damn thing apart LOL!!

You bet Bob! I have accepted that these things will crash and I wont let that discourage me any longer. Losing my Flash sucked but I did not skip a beat. I love this hobby!

Check the fuel system really good. I would replace any T- fittings with festo Y fitting.

The problem with that is the fuselage has to be separated to get to the fuel tanks. It looks to be a pita to do, lots of servo leads and airline. I would have preferred to assemble the fuselage like they do on the 1/6 F16.

Joel, although the manual shows it coming in two pieces, my 1/6 F16 came as a single piece fuse in the summer of ‘16. It can be separated but was together when it arrived

Strange, my F16 came separated, which made it easy to access the tanks and check the plumbing.

I have one of these and love it as well. My only complaint would be spool up time, did you tune the acceleration time at all or are you running default?

My initial impressions was that the spool up was slower than I was used to with my P-140SX and Titan SE, P-160 etc. The thrust seems to come in in stages with the cheetah...stepped like. My settings are all normal right now: Acc Curve = 1 Decel Curve = 1 Acc Time = 10

Hi Woody,

Thanks. Those are my settings too, the Acc Time of (10) is basically a delay of 10 sec from the time you go to full throttle to the time the turbine achieves 135K. I spoke to Jose about this and he says that number can be brought down a little to 8 or 9. But he said to test it carefully as it could cause ramp issues based on temp & humidity dependent on where you live. I may play around with it a little this spring. I started to get used to it as-is last season, but I had a situation with a go-around and the response seemed like it took forever, especially when you need the thrust to come in urgently. Are you running linear for your throttle curve? I have mine in a 27lbs Rebel. It's a little heavier than advertised as I added a smoke system. But it's a great setup with the Cheetah, It definitely keeps you on your toes throughout the flight.

My lag is noticeable but never problematic. I too heard that if you get to aggressive with that setting you could cause a flameout. I am running the linear setting.

I am currently inquiring with Patty about one of these, How did you get a Blue Angel scheme? BVM website only show 4 different options. What is delivery time frame?
Can't help but kick myself for not checking website for cyber Mon! About $5600 shipped as of today,
Rob

Mine was $5319 shipped so Cyber Monday was not that great....but I'll take it! As far as the Blue Angels, I just called Patty and asked her. She mentioned having just delivered one in that Scheme. She even contacted the customer and he was nice enough to send her Photos that she later sent top me. The jet is gorgeous in this scheme. You can pick your number and name on the cockpit too. Since its not my jet, I did not post those photos here but if Chris is reading this maybe he will post them.
Thanks,

The schemes shown are the stock ones they plan to do. But like the F16s you can get custom as well. The blues is a natural other than not true scale as they don't currently fly super hornets, but who cares.

Great! Thanks for info. Gotta get it ordered as I am sure to have a wait for a scheme other than 4 shown on BVM website.

Okay on order!
Was able to email pic of actual VFA-211 scheme with buno# and all!
Even had my 2 Squadron mates from my old VF-211 days that we lost back in 89 names painted on canopy sill.
Had them finish it in Flat clearcoat as well.
12-14 wks
Patty as always was great to deal with!
Cant wait

Wow she quoted you 12-14 weeks! She told me 8 weeks which have come and gone. But for the first time in my life, I am in no hurry to get this. I would be very happy if it took another 5 weeks because I am working on the second Flash....AND...I dont have to pay the balance till its ships LOL.
