Subscribed. I have the Frankel plans and the fiberglass parts from Fiberglass Specialties. Bought the radome, canopy, intake ducts and exhaust tail and center tail dome as one piece. One day I will build it. Vigilante is my favorite. Tops on my list.

Hi Blazer,
If you have any obscure VIgilante info. throw it up here every little bit helps. The mother load of info would be something showing all the cross sections in the plane.

Vigilante parts from Fiberglass Specialties for the Mark Frankel plans. Canopy is around 22 inches long. Marble top is 51 inches long for reference. Parts are of good quality and would recommend them.

It is interesting to see the fiber glass rear end. I think it confirms my suspicion that Mark Frankel and Phil Nuckles had to cheat a little on the rear end. The area between the exhaust is reduced to make the openings larger for the ducted fan exit. The shape on these plans look like a sub hunting antenna. The top view should be triangular in shape, with the exhaust openings being smaller………I have the plans hanging on the wall. I pinned some balsa on the plan outline of the vertical stab and glued the sticks together. I can then trace it on a block of foam to cut the stab.

I agree. Even holding these cross sections up to the plan view leaves a lot of questions. I talked to Bob at Bobs air documentations. He has 3 three views available with cross sections. If I buy all three he said I could come up with 16 cross sections. But like you said they may not jive. The trumpeter kit is an $80 plastic model, but I don't own it. Cutting it up is a B1 Bob trick. It probably isn't a bad idea……….I taped the plans together and See Temped the wing root airfoil. I have yet to find the wing tip airfoil on the print. Everyone feel free to look for it. Let me know when you find it…... I also glued some sticks together to come up with the wing plan view template. I also See Temped a side of the drop tank for future reference.

Cool. What do you need the wing planform stick figure for?
You could always find an off the shelf airfloil that is close to that one and just use the same airfoil for the tip. Does it call for any washout? If not add 1-2 degrees of washout and input the wing on this website and get the cores done:

Along with Matt, I've also found sets of 3-views where the cross sections do not loft properly. Double check! I've also used flyingfoam in the past, and was very happy with their service. Here are some pics from Pax River, MD (Naval Flight Test Center) I took back in Nov 2013.

The plan view stick outline is for tracing the plan view on a foam block. I don't know if it calls for any washout but I will put some in when I cut the cores. I was going to cut each panel in two sections because there is a step in the TE at the tip. As far as the wing tip airfoil,I will find one somewhere, but you would think it would be on the plans………..Ron, those are some nice pictures. It is amazing to see what documentation people have collected.

give 'em hell jofunk....are you cutting old school with a bow? Feathercut? I tell you these new CNC cut cores are just amazing, and no polishing templates required!

I am going to cut the cores with a bow. I enjoy doing it…... I was at Top Gun in the early 90s and Mark Frankel had a string of DF powered Skyrays. He wasn't having a good day. Good thing he had more than one. Everyone that flies a Hotspot or a Kangaroo etc. should be flying a Skyray, and be scale. I don't go to many jet rallies but when I do I get bored fast watching sport jets. The landing gear need to be stuck retracted or something needs to be falling off of them to get me to watch them fly. The flat top Vigilante (the Frankel plan) Is the plane I wanted to do originally. It has an attractive 60s look to it. Frankels Vigilante is less scale but things can be changed to make it more scale. I ordered all the 3 views for the Vigilante from BoBs Scale documentation. We will see what shows up. Frankel's Vigilante plans show all the airfoils with 2 degrees of washout in the wing tip.
