Default RE: What planes are your Diesels in?

I'm having a model built for a New un run Webra Mk1 Series 3.
What you have to decide is:
What Model is This?
More photos will come as building progresses.

Cheers

Where did the name come from? I wouldn't imagine this model would stay in the air at slow motion.....lol
Should fly some nice aerobatics though.

Actually it is pretty large. 43 inch span 380 sq. inches and
the plans list it as 40 ounces. Mine is porky at 44.

I inherited one of Tom Linwoods Hungarian WC F2D models last year and have finally matched it to my nicely prepared Fletcher/Fisher CS Oliver
complete with Snuff Tin tank. Couldn't get the tank any further inboard because of the bellcrank. Should still suck ok.
If not, it will be magor surgery to bury a tank inside the LE.
Covering now fully tight, my iron wasn't hot enough so had to go use my mates heat gun (after photos)

This is a Falcon Special Goodyear model. I believe it was built by the late Alan Shing, his close friend and neighbour Howard Bebbington inherited it and later passed it on to me. The model had been fully painted and detailed but without tank shut off or engine and clearly hadn't ever been used
I've installed my own tank, shut off and fitted a MK 3 Rossi that I desielised.
It'll be used in our speed limited Diesel Goodyear here in Australia.

SPAD PBF diesel. It is powered by an OS .40 FSR that wears an RJL head and the latest FOX .25 carburetor. Turns a MA 12x6 propeller. Runs like a dream on DDD standard diesel fuel. Much better performance with the diesel head.

Well guys, here's more pics of the model for my mates Webra Mach 1, 2.5R.
Starting to take shape, been a long time coming with other projects the builder and I have both had.
I can just see the Webra sitting up front of this model, but tnot the easiest model in the world to build a straight wing for.
Probably should have used Silk Span Tissue instead of Polyspan on the wings.
Lesson learned there.
Any takers on the name of this model yet?

Cheers

Fredo

It looks a lot like a F.W.Biesterfeld design, although I would have expected that the wing tips be rounded.
The Biesterfeld designs I know are Super Stunter, Ultra Stunter, Champion and Panther. The square tips rule these out...
Super Stunter: http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=4278
Ultra Stunter: http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=4094

A well campaigned example of the David Boddington "Mills Bomb".

Owned by "Red Zephyr". Powered (very adequately) by a PAW 149 DS R/C. A 'convertible", it can be flown F/F or R/C assist.

A deviation to the plan is the glass fibre reinforced wing centre section. This was added for durability and to increase the wingspan.

Previously powered by a watt-muncher. Owner is much happier with diesel IC power.

It does not look much, but is a good fun ship.

Take off and climb out:

Well done Blackfoot. It is the Graupner Champion. Being built from the Kit plan for a good mate of mine. He owns the Webra.
I have the other 2 plans you have listed of Outerzone. I might build the Super Stunter one day.
I must say that the plan was supplied by a member of this forum.( He'll know who it is.)
Many thanks for the plan Wayne, you must come round Alfs to have a look at the model soon.

I've just finished this.
ED powered of course, with a mounting plate system to allow other (ED!) engines to be flown.
Perhaps I won't bother to run a "guess the model" competition

At long last here's the Graupner Champion hot off the bench. It's already on its way to Sydney with its owner, Col Willoughby as I write this. A very big thanks to Alf Jefferies for building the model. I had the important task if fitting the engine, wheels, and sowing the flaps and elevator on....lol Model complete come in at 20.5 OZ. The weather was diabolically Crap this weekend in Coffs so model didn't get flown .Looking forward to the Old Phartz next year for maiden flight. The new Webra Mach 1 should do this model proud.

Cheers
Fredo

Lovely work both of you. Spray-can finish? Very slick. What paint did you use on the spinner? Is the engine nacelle hatch held on with those tiny magnets?

It looks the business just standing still!

In due course, flight report please!

Outstanding job, concours all the way , really like the spinner treatment, and Broken English outstanding also, being either lazy or impatient all I have done are the ARF kits, a few mods of course, will to practice, building, covering and a full finish some day

Hi Martin
Thanks for the comments mate. Will pass them on to Alf (builder)
The paint is our Aussie White Night spray can enamel, the tips were Humbrol and the LE is black auto tape.
Engine hatch is attached by a 3mm bolt through the nose before putting the spinner on. Spinner is same paint as model..
Cheers

Kind of intrigued with the Mills Bomb. Are plans available anywhere and what is the span?

Thanks, Jim

Jim,
The Mills Bomb was a free pull-out plan in an English RC magazine, during the nineties I think. I have a copy and obviously fiery does as well. It won't be very difficult for you to get a copy I'm sure. The original was folded A4 pages in a magazine and, as a last resort, those pages can be scanned, to give a perfectly buildable plan.

Thanks, it looks simple enough to recreate from just the dimensions, but having the plans would be great. I had toyed with building a Honker. The size of the Mills Bomb makes it more appealing (if it can be thought of as appealing). I assume it's a Jedelsky wing.

Santa must be on the wing in your neck of the woods.

Jim

The Mills Bomb has a Jedelsky wing.

The example shown is one of a series of them built and owned by 'Red Zephyr'. They fly well and are as easy as it gets to repair, though they will never win a 'concours d'elegance'.
