RE: What planes are your Diesels in?
I just finished this, it's called the Scoundrel by Steve at http://www.selecthobbies.com/ It's a pre-production kit, I powered it with a PAW 55. It's my first silk a dope plane.

Yes, it's suppose to have a range of 4-12000 rpm. I haven't tached it yet, but that sound about right, though I don't think I'm at 12000 rpm, but they may mean 4000 idle with a big prop and 12000 top with a little prop. I had it in this scratch-built before and it flys well at 1/3 throttle.

Thanks, I tried to accentuate the sleekness of the plane without going nuts and taking away from the nice shape of the plane. I've found the plane to be a much better flier than I had hoped for, it just does not have any vices, amazing.

I put my PAW 49TBR on my Avistar today to serve as test mule before I get the engine on a 1/5 scale Cub.
Only suitable prop for now is a 3-bladed 11x7 prop.
PS: Don't mind the mess, I need to clean up my workshop soon.

I'm finishing the covering on a Sig Kadet Senior. I plan to use an OS FP 40 with a DDD Conversion head on it. Beginning to think it may be under powered.

RE: What planes are your Diesels in?
The senior cadet is designed for a 40 to 46 glow with your 40 with the DDD head it will fly fine, you have increased power over glow, remember its in the air and unloads ,benchs are for break in and getting the adjustments close , not the same as in the air. It is a nice docile easy to fly airframe and measure up to your expectations try a 12x6 as a start my guess 9300-9500 maybe better martin

I got the idea it might be under powered when I talked to a guy in Albuquerque who had a .91 in his. I think that was a 4 cycle engine so so maybe equal to a 60? I'm at 4700 ft above sea level so will need more muscle for that. I'm still going to use the diesel, we'll see. I've heard of them flying with amazing small engines

If you are fly at altitude then simply fit a larger prop to catch more of the thinner air and adjust the compression to suit. <o></o>
This is one of the benefits of using a diesel, you can adjust to the changing conditions far more easily than with a glow engine.<o></o>

RE: What planes are your Diesels in?
Spent a beautifull day at the field for the first flights of the year, and took my Avistar with the PAW. Boy, do I love the smell of diesel in the morning
Took half a liter of fuel and came back with 150ml in the bottle, making around 5 ~6 flights.
After the end of the flying day, I'm happy as can be with diesel flying time and lots of moskito bites. [8D]

Some scrap balsa and profilm I had laying about.
Actually very easy to fly once you get airspeed. The PAW55 RC is a very nice lttle engine.

My 1940 Rocketeer A powered by the '49 Amco "finger bitter" 3.5cc
this was from a Al Lidbergh short kit.
He has a beautiful one powered by a repro Elfin 2.49 radial.
I launch holding the aft fuse with one hand just infront of the eppenage let go - no push and she goes straight up, and up and up
and she floats like a leaf.
don't know why I can't adjust needle with my mouth closed......

I have one of my PAW 55's in this Lady Bug. It flys great, just like the first two I built in '99. The first one flew away when the onboard battery died, taking a PAW 55 with it. The second I crashed doing downward outside snaps and the wing popped off.

Maidened my Sharkface last week-end. It is powered with a PAW 80 and 6x4 prop. It really flies fast and the roll rate is incredible with 30° rudder throw (each side). I guess 10~15° would be enough for regular flying. The elevator is gentle, the model is quite groovy. I had initially set up 45° rudder throw and no expo with the result that after the first launch, Sharkface went straight as an arrow in a shallow climb but was all over the place and down in the grass within three seconds of my touching the rudder stick! I expect lots of fun with this model and may install my NIB PAW 100 R/C later.

RE: What planes are your Diesels in?
Hi All,
My first post, so here are a few more pictures for this thread.
A trio of Schlossers.
DH02 (free RCME plan) with 0.25
Mamaselle with 0.5 RC
Coquette with 1.0 RC
Like all Schlossers, they behave impeccably.

Warren,
Gotta ask which schlosser is your favorite?
As for your planes, the Mamselle is a real beauty - love the aft fuselage and wing planform.
I see you subscribe to the "collect them all" philosophy![8D]
I made the mistake of putting my .25 in an inverted cowl installation and can't admire it's beauty[]

RE: What planes are your Diesels in?
Hi Rob,
I can't choose between them, depends on my mood.
The little 0.25 is a hooligan in the DH 02, snap rolls, spins, I'm running the motor fairly fast on a 5.5x2.5 but it sems to like it.
Flew the Coquette yesterday and tried ROG for the first time (I've been hand launching so far) it took off beatifully.
Misjudged my last landing and strained it through a downwind tree, removing the undercart and lower nose blocks - all fixed now.
The Coquette also does lovely aero's but not quite a snappy as the DH02.
The Mamselle is much more sedate, loops and rolls but no snaps.
Perfect for low throttle cruising on a calm evening.
Of course when I'm feeing like somethign faster, there's always the MP Jet! (But I'm not running it as fast as your's yet.)
