Cox .049 Baby Bee with Davis conversion head and Davis HD crankshaft, complete with pop can disk and mylar reed from 3.5" diskette and Cox 6x4 prop.
Old English fuel from Eric Clutton.
Flown in a scratch-built rudder-only Ace Whizard (built-up wing instead of foam), with 27 MHz Ace Pulse Commander single-channel radio and Adams actuator.
Very satisfying !

They don't like sticky threads in the diesel forum. I attempted to get a sticky going with a bunch of links for diesel newbies, but it was turned down. I never did understand why.

I currently have a PAW .29 mounted in a Flite Streak ARF model. It has had one brief flight. I'm looking forward to putting it back up and seeing what kind of performance I get. The prop is an 11X5.

In 1961-62 I had a full size Flite Streak with an O.S. 15 diesel. It flew great and would do the whole stunt pattern. Very light in weight with just clear dope. Jack

PAW 09 RC (graupner 8x4 prop or thin blade MAS 9x4) in a Thunder Tiger Scooter. Make for a much nicer combo than with a screaming glow engine on a small prop...

.020 size "1939 Rocketeer A" - mini Elfin .36

I ended up with two previously built and flown free flight models - a "39 Rocketeer A" and an "Answer".
These came with out the cox TD .020 and the tissue was tattered and brittle. Finally got around to recovering and converting the Rocketeer to rc during a weak moment while framing a full size Rocketeer for an AMCO 3.5.

In classic free flight form the builder wrote his name, tele and address inside. I figured he aged and grew weary of chasing them around the countryside.

Yesterday I tried calling the builder to mention how well built they were and that one at least is still flying well, but found the number disconnected. Tried calling information for an updated number to no avail. Finally googled his name and city and was directed to the below link showcasing his many paintings.

In the comments section there is a reference to his "amazing flying machines" so I left a comment.
It appears he passed away in 2001, his name is Carl Cogar of Las Cruces, NM (1921-2001)

I have a NIB engine - a PAW 09 with RC carb (with a lovely blue anodised head) & muffler.

Can anyone suggest what would be a suitable RC model for a PAW of that capacity?

Maidened my Sharkface last week-end. It is powered with a PAW 80 and 6x4 prop. It really flies fast and the roll rate is incredible with 30° rudder throw (each side). I guess 10~15° would be enough for regular flying. The elevator is gentle, the model is quite groovy. I had initially set up 45° rudder throw and no expo with the result that after the first launch, Sharkface went straight as an arrow in a shallow climb but was all over the place and down in the grass within three seconds of my touching the rudder stick! I expect lots of fun with this model and may install my NIB PAW 100 R/C later.

G'day Oily handed people. My Paw 1.5 BB is in a half size Dalaire Sportster, my Silver Swallow 1.5 is in an Airsail Heron Gas Buggy and my Irvine 40D is in a Great Planes Big Stick 40. The Stick had a diesel converted Magnum 46 XL until recently. It is presently homeless. I also have a PAW 35 looking for a home. I might put it in my old LT25 to see how she goes as it is presently sans engine.

I also was recently given three nice Taipan 2.5 cc diesels and a glow. They are looking for something to fly now. Possibly some old timers I think.

G'day Oh alright - I'll stoke up the Nikon and take some photos tomorrow. I started putting the PAW 35 into the old LT-25 trainer today. It fits quite well and with a 6 oz tank should fly for quite a while.

The little Dalaire is quite delightful. It is a one ball bearing engine which was a pain to start initially but once it got a few runs under its belt, become a little gem. The little Silver Swallow in the Gas Buggy is quite a sweet running engine but without a throttle. This makes it rather too powerful for the model and I think I will have to either fit a very large prop and run it very decompressed or run the prop backwards. The Irvine 40D came from the usual auction place. It has had a couple of former owners who were not very kind to it but it still runs well. Why do people attack their engines with drills and multigrips? The Magnum 46 with its diesel head is suprisingly good for such a cheap engine. The head was made about 1992 to fit the ASP46 of the time. I could never get the ASP to idle or throttle so it went back to glow and was sold. The secret to getting the Magnum to run well was to fit a carby from a GWS 25. This made it a much happier engine which now idles well and has good throttle response for a diesel.

The motor mount is made of 4 interlocking pieces of five-ply aircraft plywood as shown, assembled with Titebond II wood glue.
Parts A,C and D are 1/8", and part B is two layers of the same .
Finish and fuelproofing is two coats of thin CA glue followed by five coats of nitrate dope.
The 2.5 mm holes for attaching to the firewall are spaced like for a Cox Baby-Bee for the sake of interchangeability.
The engine is mounted with 2x10mm stainless steel bolts and nuts.
It is a fun model indeed, and I was surprised that it was never difficult to visualise it in the air, tiny and fast as it is.

JMP Blackfoot very nice design and well made It is obvious that several sizes these could be made to use any 09, 10 0r 15 size engine and by simply bolting the unit to the planes fire wall you now
have a very strong mount easy to interchange martin

My first diesel is a .06 PAW installed in an electric design, the Adrian Britton designed PA-12, 45" span, 22oz

Soon to have a .09 PAW in a sport plane and probably a ST .91 Davis conversion in a new 60" WACO YMF

My "DAD" had its first flight today.
D.A.D. stands for Duration-Altitude-Distance. It is a classic French vintage model designed in 1942 by Jean Guillemard, which became famous in 1945 when it beat all three French records in a single flight.
It was my first power model, built with a friend when we were 13 in 1956. At the time, we flew it free-flight with a 2.5cc Taifun Rasant1 engine and 23x15 (9x6) prop and had many pleasant flights with it.
In 2009,53 years later, we both built a replica. My friend's is electric powered, mine is fitted with my beloved Taifun Zyklon and 11x4 prop.
At 920 gram and 35 sq.dm in its silk and dope covering, it has a wing loading about 10oz/sq.ft which, in combination which the highly cambered Grant G9 airfoil makes this is the slowest flying IC powered model I have ever had. It flies easily at 1/3 throttle and makes the nicest tail-high take-offs one could wish for.
I am not disppointed, it is all I remembered! Now I can go on with the decoration.

Howdy Mac, what props are you running on the LA .46s, my LA .46 conversion is on a Kombat 40 from the Airplane Factory and is turning a 12x7 Graupner.

Hobbsy-I haven't flow this plane yet-I'm going to run 12X8 Master Airscrew K series per a conversation I had with Mr. Davis when I was setting the plane up. I talked to him for a long time- he is a very knowledgeable man. The motors just need to be synced to get her going. I basically increased the prop by 25%. So we'll see what happens. Just ran into some delays-the plane needed more than a pound of lead in the nose to cg outwound up having to cut a trap door behind the nose gear former-one thing after the other with this plane it totally is a builders ARF. I'd call Davis and talk to him he'll rattle the #'s right off the top of his head at you. Let me know what he says. I gotta get this plane up- look in the crash and rebuild forum under "Big Stick Down" it's on the 2nd page right after "prop bitten" that's my everyday flyer I gotta fix it too.
